Deciding on an Indoor Grill
Do you love to use your barbecue but don’t always get to use it due to the weather? You can achieve some of that grilling experience inside by using an indoor grill. Indoor grills give you the opportunity to grill many of your favorites indoors. You can grill just about anything from burgers to chicken to steaks, veggies, seafood and kabobs. Indoor grills come in a different shapes, sizes, and styles. Below I will list some of the features of various indoor grills.
Open grills have a cooking surface similar to that of an outdoor grill. Some are electric and have glass lids to help with any spattering that may occur as well as to conserve heat. They will typically have a pan below that you fill with a little water to catch grease and help prevent smoke. With an open grill you can cook thicker cuts of meat. You can also find grill toppers that you can place over your stove, these will typically have a ridged surface to give you those lovely grill marks.
Two-sided or contact grills are also popular since they have grills on both sides to help cook the food more quickly and evenly. Some are angled and come with grease catchers so you can have a healthy option when cooking. These can be used to cook sandwiches as well as grill meats. Most contact grills only allow for meats that are an inch or less in thickness, so you would be better off cooking something like bone in chicken on an open grill. You do not have to worry about smoke with a contact grill, a little steam may escape but other than that they are smokeless.
You can find indoor grills in a variety of sizes, ranging from small for a single person, to family size that can cook several portions at a time. Some grills are available with interchangeable surfaces so you are not limited to one option. You have the ability to create panini-style sandwiches, pancakes and more. Removable plates also allow for easier clean up.
Another added feature most indoor grills have is an adjustable thermostat. Simply set the temperature you want and the grill should maintain its temperature. Typically you will be provided with a guide to let you know what setting you will need to grill your meats and for how long.
When you want to grill but can’t get out, an indoor grill can be a great kitchen appliance. They can be fun, easy to use and provide you with another cooking option.
